EasyRenew.ca is Alberta’s Automatic Licence Plate Renewal system where you can register to have your vehicles licence plates automatically renewed. Once you sign up, you will receive an annual reminder notice right from your registry of choice. Providing there are no changes to your vehicle or address, the registry will be able to renew your licence plate.
What do I need to have to register on the EasyRenew.ca system?
To register your vehicles on the EasyRenew system all you need is a valid email address. Once registered you can leave the worrying to us! We will send you your annual reminder notices. You simply enter the information that the registry will need to process your licence plate renewal. Once your credit card is approved, your plates are renewed with the Alberta Government by the registry. Easy Peasy!
What documentation is required to complete my EasyRenew account set up?
To set up your account all you need to know is your Licence plate number. To complete the process you will also need to have your Insurance information available as well as your vehicle ownership and insurance paperwork.
What are benefits of using the EasyRenew.ca system?
EasyRenew.ca is a joint initiative between OptionPay Inc., the AARA and over 100 Alberta Registry offices. You can walk into most Registries in Alberta to sign up or visit any participating registries web page to be directly connected to the EasyRenew.ca registration page.
How do I pay for this service?
Sign up is free, and there is no cost to be enrolled in the reminder services. Once you renew your plates and complete your Insurance attestation you will be able to complete payment by your credit card of choice (Visa, MasterCard or American Express). You have the option of maintaining your credit card on file for future services and payments.
Privacy is of the utmost concern to all registries, Service Alberta, the AARA and OptionPay. Authorized Alberta Registry Offices and their agents will only handle your records. These are the same offices you have trusted for more than 25 years. OptionPay will complete all payment card processing. OptionPay is fully PCI compliant and is subject to monthly, unrelated, third party scans for validation. For validation confirmation please click here.
Once enrolled in EasyRenew.ca can I add another vehicle?
Yes, you can! simply login into your account on the EasyRenew.ca web page and update your information. Click the ADD button on the screen to add a 2nd, 3rd, 4th...vehicle.
What if I have fines, can I still use this service?
No, You will have to visit your local registry to clear up any outstanding fine payments prior to your licence plate being renewed.
Can I change my registry agent?
Yes, you can make this change within your EasyRenew account by changing your Registry of Record.
Why do I need to do an Insurance attestation?
Your insurance must provide public liability and property damage coverage under an owner's automobile insurance policy as provided for in the Alberta Insurance Act. It is an offence punishable by law to apply for or obtain registration of a motor vehicle when it is not insured or to operate an uninsured motor vehicle.
Can I renew my licence plates for 2 or more years?
No, there is currently no option for renewing your plates for more than 1 year within EasyRenew, please contact your registry for more information.
What if I have a lost or stolen plate?
If your licence plate is lost or stolen, you can obtain a replacement at any Authorized Alberta Registry Agency. If your licence plate or validation tags have been lost or stolen, you should report it to the police and obtain a police file number. To replace the licence plate and/or validation tags, visit any authorized Alberta Registry Agency and: 1. provide your Alberta drivers licence or 2 alternate pieces of acceptable identification. 2. fill out a licence plate declaration form 3. pay the required fee
Can I change my personal information on this site?
We cannot update or change your personal information included in your vehicle registration profile. If you wish to update or change this information, please visit your local Authorized Alberta Registry Agency.

What do I need to register my vehicle?
To register a vehicle you will require proof of ownership (such as a bill of sale or lease agreement), proof of valid insurance and one piece of government issued identification. You are also strongly encouraged to record your odometer reading at the time of registration. If the vehicle is new you will also require a new vehicle information statement (NVIS), or if the vehicle was imported into Canada, you will require a Vehicle Import Form from Transport Canada. Used vehicles previously registered outside Alberta require a safety inspection. To register a vehicle for the first time you must visit a registry agent.
