Why do I need to do an Insurance attestation?

Your insurance must provide public liability and property damage coverage under an owner's automobile insurance policy as provided for in the Alberta Insurance Act. It is an offence punishable by law to apply for or obtain registration of a motor vehicle when it is not insured or to operate an uninsured motor vehicle.

What if I have a lost or stolen plate or year sticker?

If your licence plate or year sticker is lost or stolen, you can obtain a replacement at any Authorized Alberta Registry Agency. To replace the licence plate and/or validation tags, visit any authorized Alberta Registry Agency and: 1. provide your Alberta drivers licence or 2 alternate pieces of acceptable identification. 2. fill out a licence plate declaration form 3. pay the required fee

Can I change my personal information on this site?

We cannot update or change your personal information included in your vehicle registration profile. If you wish to update or change this information, please visit your local Authorized Alberta Registry Agency.

My registration expires in a few days; can I still process my renewal on line?

If you are 10 days or less away from your expiry date, it is still possible to renew your registration on line, but there can be no guarantee that your tabs will arrive in the mail prior to expiry. If you renew online we recommend that you print your renewal receipt and carry a copy in your vehicle(s) until the tabs are received. You could be subject to fines, towing & storage charges if your tabs are out of date. You can also chose to pick up your TABS at the EasyRenew Express wicket available at your chosen local registry. You may visit a registry office in person to avoid any negative outcomes from not having your new tabs properly displayed.

What do I do with the yearly tab (sticker) once I receive it?

The renewal sticker must be stuck on the plate in the right area. The back of the sheet with the sticker on it will show you where it must go.

I need to visit a registry agent, where do I find one?

Please visit the AARA web site for a full listing of Registry Agents in your area. www.aara.ca/agents

What do I need to register my vehicle?

To register a vehicle you will require proof of ownership (such as a bill of sale or lease agreement), proof of valid insurance and one piece of government issued identification. You are also strongly encouraged to record your odometer reading at the time of registration. If the vehicle is new you will also require a new vehicle information statement (NVIS), or if the vehicle was imported into Canada, you will require a Vehicle Import Form from Transport Canada.
